Mr Mthozami R. Xiphu, Chairman Position and Memberships Mthozami Xiphu is the Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Agency (PASA), which is responsible for the promotion, licensing and regulation of petroleum exploration activities on and off the shores of South Africa. In this position, he also acts as the Chairperson of the Extended Continental Shelf Claim Project, as well as the Chairman of the Upstream Training Trust, which is made up of operators in the South African petroleum exploration industry. Before joining the Petroleum Agency as Acting Chief Executive Officer in February 2005, Mthozami was the Director of Legal Services for the Department of Minerals and Energy. While with the DME, he also served as a trustee of the mining Rehabilitation Trust of the Department of Minerals and Energy. In 2004, Mthozami joined, and continues to serve on, the Board of the 18th World Petroleum Congress Association, which was tasked with organising the 2005 Congress hosted by South Africa. Qualifications BA, BJuris and MA from the University of Port Elizabeth (RSA) and Howard University, Washington, DC (USA). Numerous management courses as well as courses in petroleum economics and legal aspects of the petroleum upstream industry.

George Mnguni is currently the Chief Director: Management Services at the Department of Minerals and Energy (DME), a position he has held since May 2000. His portfolio comprises Legal, HRM, HRD, and Security Risk Management. Prior to this position, he has worked for the DME since 1995, initially as Director: Special Programmes & Projects and then as Director: HRM & Development.
Professional memberships include the SA Institute of Public Administrators, the SA Institute of Organisation and Methods, and the Institute of Directors. George is and has been active on numerous professional committees within the DME: - Chairperson : Departmental Bargaining Chamber

MA (Public Administration) from the University of Pretoria; BA from Tshwane University of Technology; National Diploma in Public Administration from the University of Zululand; Diploma in Organisation and Methods from Northern Transvaal Technikon; various certified courses such as Corporate Governance at the University of South Africa and Public Management at UTP.
| | | |  Mr Marek Ranoszek, Trustee Position and Memberships
Marek Ranoszek is currently General Manager, Pioneer Natural Resources SA (Pty) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Dallas-based independent oil and gas E&P Company, Pioneer Natural Resources Company. He commenced his career in oil and gas exploration as a wellsite geologist with Soekor in Cape Town. In 1992, Marek joined a newly established oil and gas E&P group at Sasol, later to be named Sasol Petroleum International (SPI), where he worked as an exploration and operations geologist responsible for SPI’s operations in North Africa. Marek then moved to Sasol Synfuels International as a Business Development Manager before joining Pioneer Natural Resources SA as its General Manager.
Marek also serves as chairman of the Offshore Petroleum Association of South Africa. Qualifications BSc (Hons) degree in geology from the Rand Afrikaans University (1988); Masters in Business Leadership from UNISA (1997). |
